Before social media let groups of friends continually broadcast their whereabouts, custom T-shirts were the only way to let everyone know you successfully ate an entire 5-pound steak. Learn to make a friendly statement with todays Groupon: for $60, you get a three-hour screen-printing workshop at Fugscreens Studios (a $130 total value). The workshop includes the following:
Fugscreens Studios' classes and workshops, designed by artist and studio founder Zissou Tasseff-Elenkof, enlist students to help in the fight against blank T-shirts and posters through professional screen printing. Tasseff-Elenkoff honed his abilities at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and he imparts his squeegee-wielding wisdom in working with each student to provide inspiration and constructive guidance. During each three-hour class, students will explore the background and history of screen-printing, as well as various examples such as drawn, exposed, block outs, and canvas prints. Students should arrive with their original ideas, which they will transform to a template with the help of Photoshop, Illustrator, and a magician's mighty wand. With a careful selection of ink colors, students will align their screens and press their images onto their own personal prints. After curing images, students will be able to apply desired scratch-and-sniff and 3-D effects to make their original work even more striking.
