According to data compiled by Kids Count, nearly 30 percent of Wayne County children live below the poverty line. In order to meet kids' most basic needs, such as food and clothing, many of their families must forgo purchasing warm coats for them. Operation Warm manufactures and distributes new winter coats for children from low-income families to prevent suffering in cold climates.
Since its inception in 1998, Operation Warm has provided winter coats for 775,000 children. The group aims to reach its millionth child by the end of its current distribution season. Partnering with Six Downriver Detroit Metro Rotary Clubs, Operation Warm plans to distribute coats to 4,000 children from low-income families at local schools and Head Start programs. It costs $20 to provide a coat to one child, and the organization requires additional funding in order to meet its 4,000-coat goal.
Join G-Team and donate $10 to help provide winter coats for children from low-income families. If G-Team members raise $400, then Operation Warm can distribute winter coats to 40 Detroit-area children. Donations up to $7,000 will be matched by six Downriver Detroit Metro Rotary Clubs from Gibraltar, Grosse Ile, Taylor, Trenton, Woodhaven/Brownstown Township, and Wyandotte. Each additional $10 donation, in combination with the donation match, will purchase a coat for another child.
Unlike traditional Groupon deals, G-Team campaigns typically don't offer you a "discount" or "savings."
