Points of Light Institute mobilizes individuals to enact change in their communities by sponsoring engaging volunteer opportunities across the country. Points of Lights volunteer action division, HandsOn Network, is partnering with 9/11 Day to organize a nationwide day of charitable service to commemorate the 10th anniversary of 9/11, and the national spirit of unity that followed the attacks. The initiative includes scheduled community projects in a variety of cities, with the goal of completing a total of one million acts of service.
In the Philadelphia area, Points of Light Institute will equip and mobilize volunteers with the tools and funding necessary to complete local service projects organized by Greater Philadelphia Cares. Volunteers will work indoors and out, on projects such as the Fireman's Tribute Walk, a chance to pay tribute to first responders, followed by a civic service project and nonprofit expo on Independence Mall. Meanwhile, caring cadets in other parts of the city will help out at the annual Golden Games for seniors by setting up and decorating tables, meeting and greeting nursing-home residents, assisting with registration, and passing out T-shirts and pompoms.
Many of the projects facilitate human connections, such as interviewing veterans of foreign wars at Philadelphia Veterans Multi-Service & Education Center and assisting with the distribution of a charity meal at Olivet Baptist Church. While Greater Philadelphia Cares has a schedule full of events planned, the organization is still in need of the materials necessary to complete many of the projects, including meals, decorations, T-shirts, pompoms and trash bags.
Join G-Team and donate $10 to help sponsor a day of service that will honor the anniversary of 9/11. If G-Team members raise $500, then Points of Light can purchase tools and supplies for charitable service projects across Philadelphia. Each additional $10 raised will go toward funding more service projects during that weekend. G-Team members who want to volunteer can also sign up for an opportunity in their communities.
Unlike traditional Groupon deals, G-Team campaigns typically don't offer you a "discount" or "savings." So "buyer" bewarewhen you click "Buy" to donate your time or money to a worthwhile G-Team cause, the only discount you may receive is 100% off free, priceless karma. Read more about G-Team.
