Food and wine festivals allow people to diversify their palates in one day, a feat previously attainable only by cramming five frozen dinners and a variety pack of juice boxes into a blender. Savor expanding horizons with today's Groupon: for $29, you get a wine-tasting outing for four at Indian Creek Winery in Georgetown, Indiana (up to a $79 total value). The outing includes the following:
Clinking glasses, filled with an ever-changing selection of small-batch elixirs, sing out from Indian Creek Winery's outdoor patio across 5 acres of vineyard on rolling southern Indiana terrain. Owner Mark Kendall greets guests with a glass bearing the winery's insignia, which immediately fills with sips from the rotating wine list. Offerings such as the three-wine blend Dry Creek red swirl to release a locally wrought bouquet, and a white chambourcin and a selection of sweet rieslings busy tongues like a job explaining shore-side seashell sales. Mark then pours a full glass for each of the guests as they gather around a 16-inch platter laden with radiating circles of smoked baby gouda, havarti, and sharp provolone cheeses. Raisins, apricots, and summer sausage, each partnered with a different flavored cracker, complete the recalibration of taste buds and fuel happy chatter. Mark fields questions about the wines, laying out the fermentation process and suggesting varietals to leave out in a saucer for Bacchus.
During the tasting, attendees sit at cafe tables surrounded by racks of bottles, bathed in strains of country music and spontaneous love songs between wines. Tasters depart with freshly rinsed souvenir glasses and a bottle of house wine selected by the Groupon holder.
