As darkness falls over Prevent Blindness Texass annual Light the Night for Sight 5K, racers dash through SeaWorldwhich is illuminated by thousands of holiday lightswhile showing their support in the fight against blindness. The park opens for race participants at 6 p.m., who can park for free, and opening ceremonies begin at 7:15 p.m. Runners take off at 7:30 p.m., closely followed by walkers with a herd of polar bears spurring them on from behind. After crossing the finish line, racers dock at the Ports of Call, where a hearty dinner dispatches hunger with pulled-pork barbecue sandwiches, smoked sausage, and hot dogs accompanied by cold deli sides, cookies, and soft drinks. After dinner, everyone heads to the Shamu Theater for a private showing of SeaWorlds new show, One Ocean, in which killer whales jump, perform tricks, and deliver Shakespearean monologues in the spray of dancing fountains. In the family area, kids create arts and crafts, engage mobile gaming at the Games2U van, offer a cheeky canvas for face-painted al frescos, or mingle casually with costumed characters.
