Getting out of the house is often hampered by the fact that most houses are located inside a bigger and fancier house. Step outside of the house outside of your house with today's Groupon: for $35, you get two entries to a three-hour CityRace Urban Adventure Hunt from Race/LA (a $70 value). This deal is valid for two entries to one of five hunts, which take place in various areas around the city. Groups can include up to four people, so Groupon purchasers can team up with up to two additional friends who pay separately.
CityRace Urban Adventure Hunts challenge teams of amateur sleuths with urban odysseys through scenic Los Angeles neighborhoods, each calling upon brainpower, teamwork, detective skills, and a dash of moxie. Grab your smartest gumshoe friend or rent a friendly nerd and get ready to hit the streets for an adventure that begins with each team receiving a packet of clues. Some clues are a cinch, some are head scratchers, and others require blowing the dust off unused gray matter in the brain or forging a psychic bond with Sherlock Holmes. Speed-thinkers are charged with following the clues to various locales around the race area, where they can rack up points by answering questions and, in some cases, picking up unique scavenger hunt items, though no points are awarded for picking up actual scavengers.
On February 19, brainy racers can compete in the Olvera Street, El Pueblo and Beyond adventure through one of Los Angeles' oldest areas. March 12 sends contestants through the Center of the City of Angels, where clues lead to world-famous landmarks scattered among captivating skyscrapers, which have been instructed not to mock stumped searchers. The Secrets of Little Tokyo are unveiled on March 20, sending participants on a brain-teasing foray amid striking art and architecture. The Secrets of Old Pasadena hunt takes contestants down the quaint alleyways of the beautifully preserved "original" downtown on April 2 and April 10, and May 28 brings an oceanfront challenge with From Pacific Park to the Promenade, in which clues are hidden among the sand and surf of Santa Monica.
