During Fleet Week, May 22May 30, a host of Tall Ships from the U.S. and foreign navies gather in New York Harbor to showcase the old-fashioned beauty of their many sails, complex rigging, and imposing planks while The Blue Angels fly overhead. To get an up-close view, passengers board a 60-foot sailboat and cruise out to meet them. For two hours, the tour coasts past breathtaking views of the New York City skylineincluding Ellis Island and the George Washington Bridgebefore stealing up-close peeks of the ships. The BYOB policy allows guests to sip personal coolers of beer or wine as they enjoy the provided snacks and take in the majestic tall ships. Operation Sail, or OpSail for short, participates in Fleet Week and is a national non-profit organization dedicated to promoting goodwill among nations, and the development of youth through sail training. In 2012, OpSail will celebrate the bicentennial of our nation's anthem, The Star-Spangled Banner, with a parade of tall ships and warships, from over 25 nations, and will sail to five historic ports: New Orleans, Norfolk, Boston, Baltimore, and New York City and join America in commemoration of this national milestone.
During OpSail 2012, passengers will board the spacious New Horizons, a 60-foot custom-designed and Coast Guardcertified Tortola motor-sailer on vacation from its home port in Boston, to take in sweeping New York City skyline and bridge views before ogling the tall ships.
