Sisters Dhyana and Syama Masla founded Stanton Street Yoga to share their passion for Ayurvedic healing, which they cultivated growing up at their fathers Ayurvedic health center in Florida. Both sisters attended massage school to learn Western-style physiology. They also earned degrees in traditional Eastern arts and traveled to India to observe holistic healers at work. Today, they each incorporate different methods as they teach yoga alongside their instructors; Dhyana draws from psychology, and Syama blends in dance and creative movement. The sisters also train instructors toward certification at their Inspiration Yoga Institute, and spread their knowledge of yoga at conferences around the world.
Inside their tucked-away studio, whose earth-toned walls muffle outside sound, instructors lead classes that fuse multiple yogic disciplines, from basic hatha poses to popular Vinyasa-style flows. They design each class around the emotions, interests, and experience of the group, rather than relying on a rigid set of levels, which keeps curriculums flexible. In an attached wellness center, they work to soothe clients stress with holistic treatments, including four-handed abhyanga massages with herb-infused oil. Their passion for healthy living also extends to an on-site cafe, where chefs craft vegetarian and vegan dishes using all organic ingredients.
