The Rausch familys Maize at Little Darby Creek has whirled visitors through 9 acres of unexpected twists for 10 seasons, during which other harvest-themed activities have sprouted adjacent to the stalks. This seasons maze design, created by Columbus Dispatch artist Aaron Harden, commemorates the 150th anniversary of the Civil Warvisitors can wander around an outline of Ohio or stand on the shoulders of a musket-wielding infantryman while wondering where all this corn learned how to draw. Trekkers can tackle phase one, which takes about 1020 minutes to complete, or brazenly scoff at adversity by continuing onto phase two, a more challenging path requiring anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes of skillful negotiation. Activities woven into the mazes winding causeways test patrons mental mettle with numbered signs, puzzles, and clues written in corn text designed to lead patrons to freedom or to a buried chest of cursed doubloons.
