Conquering the Earth's rugged landscapes and formidable weather systems has long captivated humanity, from Magellan's voyage around the world to Gene Kelly's victory over scattered showers in Singin' in the Rain. Prevail over nature with today's Groupon: for $35, you get one entry to the Tundra Challenge at the Olympia Resort and Conference Center on Saturday, January 14, in Oconomowoc (up to a $95 value). This Groupon is valid for the 1:30 p.m., 2 p.m., 2:30 p.m., and 3 p.m. waves.
All Saturday participants must be at least 18 years old, and regular entry for high-school and college students is $30.
After the snow and ice has settled on the pastoral, forested grounds of Olympia Resort and Conference Center, thousands of runners converge to hurl themselves at 3.5 miles of frozen terrain and obstacles during the Tundra Challenge. In each 30-minute wave, 200 racers must surmount more than 15 obstacles, including Helsinki Hill, a 205-foot climb up a slippery slope leading to the 50-foot Suicide Slide, and the Tundra Toast, in which participants must roast marshmallows to a perfect medium-rare while vaulting over flame pits. Other trials include weaving through icy tunnels, climbing up 12 feet of cargo net, and crawling under nets while dodging snowballs.
The top finishers, teams with the best attitude, and participants with the longest nose icicles receive trophies after the race, and all runners garner a free hat and beer coupon for their bravery. The after-party kicks off at noon, warming ice-veined adventurers with live music, DJs, warm cuisine, and drinks.
Though the value of this deal varies depending on how close to the event the ticket is ordered, today's Groupon offers the best possible deal for nonstudent participants.
